Rev. Hoyt Huff Receives Honorary Doctor of Divinity

Rev. Henry Hoyt Huff, Jr. was honored by the conferring of Doctor of Divinity Degree by The Christian College of Georgia on November 1, 2009 at 3:30pm at First Christian Church of Lawrenceville.

Dr. Huff is a native of Lawrenceville and a graduate of The University of Georgia and Candler School of Theology of Emory University.  He has served the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with standing since 1964.  Hoyt was licensed and ordained by The First Christian Church of Lawrenceville, which is celebrating it's Centennial year.  A life-long learner, Hoyt continues to avail himself of opportunities for personal growth and service to others.  Hoyt also attended Lexington Theological Seminary in Kentucky, and participated in an average of at least one certification or professional training program each year of his ministry.  His curriculum vita reflects an emphasis on Leadership, Evangelism, Pastoral Care, and Stewardship.  His ministry confirms that he not only studies ministry but also practices ministry with skill, acuity and integrity.

Hoyt has extended his influence, often quietly and behind the scenes, in Ministerial, Educational, Philanthropic, and Human Service endeavors in each community in which he has served.  He is known by his colleagues, Disciples and Ecumenical Partners, as one who tenaciously yet humbly brings people together.  His enthusiasm is a gift of the Holy Spirit and he is known as a Christian who loves.

His tenure as a member of the Board of Trustees of Christian College of Georgia, spanning fourteen years in which he served as Chair for the last eight years, was active, faithful and inspirational.  Hoyt has served congregations in Georgia, Kentucky and Texas, and has distinguished himself as a collaborative partner in ministry with ecumenical colleagues in each community in which he has served.

Hoyt and Betty, a Registered Nurse, are the parents of three sons: Tadd, Jay and Brandon.
